Tom Hart is a New York artist who draws annotated portraits of subway riders during his commutes, by hand with fountain pen, brush and cut-paper collage, adding invented biographical text with “names changed to protect the peculiar.” Stereophile, at the Gralbum launch, saw NYC bums, metal-heads, and hipsters on the subway with gruff but comical drawings and incisive poetry.
Two gralbums
The Gralbum Collective published Train O’ Thots in April 2014, his drawings and words with music by Moon Hooch, and Train O’ Thoughts in April 2015, with music by Exaltron (Scott Hampton) and me: “Hope is a state of Mind” is mine. The second launched with a showing at the New York Transit Museum on April 1, 2015. Video and animation on both were by Jacob McCoy and Leah Coloff.
